TSL transformers with copper windings

At the customer's request, we can manufacture dry-type TSL power transformers with copper windings. Their distinctive feature compared to other design versions with aluminum windings is their large weight and dimensions.

The LV windings can be made of copper wire (up to 160 kVA) or copper strip (from 250 kVA). The windings are impregnated with resin, which is then polymerized in the heat treat furnace, thus increasing resistance to short-circuit currents due to increased rigidity of the structure, as well as protecting the windings from dust, moisture, and environment.

The HV windings consist of several consecutively connected sections. Each winding section is made of insulated wire (up to 400 kVA) or copper strip (from 630 kVA). The inner and outer surfaces of the windings are coated with fiberglass mesh, which acts as reinforcement for epoxy resin and fillers.

We introduce our dry-type TSL transformers with copper windings, which are available both from stock and on request.

Compared to standard TSL transformers with aluminum windings, these units are slightly heavier, larger, but are characterized by lower energy losses.

TSL transformers with copper windings

The low-voltage windings are made of either copper wire or copper strip. The two version differ in terms of their capacity – 160 or 250 kVA, respectively. The high- and low-voltage windings are insulated with an epoxy resin compound. First, the wire/strip is impregnated with liquid resin, and then goes to the heat treat furnace, which polymerizes the compound.

High-voltage windings are assembled from several sections that are connected in series. Each individual section is made of insulated copper wire or copper strip and rated for 400 or 630 kVA, respectively.

The windings are dual-coated with glass fiber, which reinforces them before further impregnation with the epoxy compound under high vacuum. The high and low voltage windings are manufactured using the block winding technology.

Operational specifications and design features

Dry-type TSL transformers with copper winding are available in two voltage class versions – 6 and 10 kV. In addition, “Transformator” manufactures low noise freeze-resistant units (climate category UKhL3) characterized by reduced energy losses, etc.

The epoxy cast insulation increases the resistance of transformers to short-circuit currents by increasing the overall rigidity of the structure. The insulation reliably protects the windings from dust, moisture, and other environmental factors.

The main intended purpose of dry-type TSL transformers is conversion of electrical energy running from an AC grid into electricity suitable for industrial and domestic use.

The five-stage adjustment of the transformers with NLTCs allows you to change the voltage by ±2—2.5 %.

The core TSL transformers is made of high-quality cold-rolled steel, which is then stacked on a state-of-the-art process line. The upper and lower field frames are press-formed with channel bars, and the windings are reinforced using a fiberglass profile.
